Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Mathajis,
Please accept my humble pranams! All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Gurudev!

The parents are always worried about the younger generation, particularly considering the kali yuga atmosphere prevailing everywhere. At a certain stage, the children have to leave the protective shelter of their parents, either for their studies or employment etc. At that point it is very important that the younger generation remember the following wonderful instructions given by our beloved Guru Maharaj, in reply to a question by a devotee in Singapore. It also makes us understand the sincere, pure and unmotivated mood with which a preacher should be preaching the message of Krishna.

"Everybody is not attracted to Krishna. Majority of people are attracted to sense gratificatory activities. Everybody is nearly attracted to the main market, video shops, brothels and restaurants and what not. Singapore is very famous for that and all cities are competing with each other in supplying sense gratification. This is the real fact. So that is the general flow that everybody is attracted to the activities which are completely barred when we become a devotee. Here we have a big temple, very nice arrangement and there is not a snigleTV here. We may have a TV set here but we do not put it on. We only put it on to see the Krishna conscious videos. Otherwise we do not use it. This is a fact.

If you become a devotee means, you are swimming against the current. The current is that you are going to the sense gratificatory activities. Everybody is following and if you follow sense gratification, you will have so many companions. You go to the pubs and there may be 100 people with you and break each other's heads. That is also companionship. That is their way to become companion. Here (temple or Krishna conscious centre) you come and we smile nicely. That is our companionship. But the general tendency is to run away from this and that is the general flow. That is the current. If you want, you can swim in the direction of the current and then it is very easy. You just throw yourself in the river and just here and there move your limbs and you are floating because the current is helping you. But when you go against the current it is hard job and not only the hard job but you have to struggle continuously. As soon as you stop again, you will glide down. If you stop, then you destroy yourselves. If you do not stop, with hard struggle you keep afloat and may be you go a few feet. This is the difference between the general flow and the flow towards Krishna and if you come to Krishna, then it is a hard endeavor. Very hard struggle. Very hard life. To get up at 4 o'clock is itself an austerity what to talk of standing before the deities and performing kirtana and chant and hear Bhagavatam. This is hard punishment for karmi people, those who are not attracted to Krishna. Those who are not attracted to Krishna will not be able to get up at 8 o'clock in the morning what to talk of 4.00 a.m.This is not easy. For those who have dedicated their lives to Krishna, it is easy. 3.30a.m is midnight for us. We cannot think to get up. If we do get up, then what to do? So you again go to the bed and this is how we destroy ourselves. The more you sleep during that time, you increase the ratio of mucus in your body. If you get up early in the morning, the mucus will be normal ratio. We do want mucus in our body. Frankly speaking, all our limbs, lungs and our intestine and everything, they are made of mucus. So we cannot get rid of mucus. But we do not want extra mucus. If you get up early in the morning, you will stop forming the extra mucus and you will not fall ill any time and that is the meaning of early to bed and early to rise is the way to be happy, healthy, wealthy and wise.

If you are strong, if you have beautiful body, then somebody will give you the job or if you are working for yourself, somebody will be pleased to talk to you. People do not want to employ monkeys. They want to employ nice beautiful faces. And if you don't look beautiful, then you destroy yourself. Everywhere there are no vacancies for you. This is the result of forgetting Krishna. If you remember Krishna, you are alright in your health. If you forget Krishna, you destroy your health and as soon as you destroy your health, you invite yamaraj untimely and you invite old age untimely, your head will be completely grey untimely and after having a grey head, if you become a devotee, it will be blackish grey. It will be grey but it will be blackish grey. And if you forget Krishna, it will be snowy grey. So it is your choice.

Please don't put yourself in this terrible situation. Somehow or the other, for Krishna's sake, for devotee's sake, for everyone's sake, please remember these instructions. We are imparting it completely free. I am not charging you anything that I am giving you a mantra and you give me 20 dollars and go away. No. We are not charging anything. Chaitanya mahaprabhu is very merciful. He has given all these things free and we are trying to distribute it free. We do not want to charge and we do not want to extract money from you. We do not want to exploit you. Because you have come, we do not want to cheat you. That is not in our nature. We are completely above these things. We do want Lakshmi to run this place, such a big place, it is not a joke. But Krishna is in control and He runs and we are not running. He is running and He is more expert running than we are. He is managing and supplying us also everything. Very nice water we get daily; very nice prasadam we get daliy; nice clean cloth we get daily. Why do we want Lakshmi? You keep your Lakshmi and may lord bless you with Lakshmi but please do not forget these instructions."
